Flashback Friday - Mussafer Hall

Flashback Friday: Today we want to highlight the renovation of a historic building, Mussafer Hall, on Tulane University’s campus in Uptown New Orleans along with the addition of an attached new structure. Completed in 2018, this 23,000 square foot building is home to academic advising, career services, and success coaching. The overall project included striking new interior upgrades to the existing 1902 Dutch-style brick building while maintaining the overall character of the historic structure as well as a 7,600 square foot modern addition. Stewart Interiors’ scope included both interior and exterior metal framing, drywall, acoustic ceilings, a specialty wood ceiling, historic plaster restoration, new plaster, and participation in the LEED program - all within a tight jobsite including a majestic 100 year old live oak tree which required special coordination to avoid damage of the tree’s extensive root system. The drywall scope was overseen by Stewart Foreman, Bill Thibodeaux, and both the new and restoration plaster was handed by Plaster Foreman Randy Johnson. Stewart restored the plaster elements on the existing historic building along with a new plaster cladding system on the addition.  The plaster restoration included taking molds of the damaged architectural elements, casting new replacement stucco pieces and installation of the same on the building including the Tulane logo as seen in these photos.
