Flashback Friday - Mussafer Hall

Flashback Friday: Today we want to highlight the renovation of a historic building, Mussafer Hall, on Tulane University’s campus in Uptown New Orleans along with the addition of an attached new structure. Completed in 2018, this 23,000 square foot building is home to academic advising, career services, and success coaching. The overall project included striking new interior upgrades to the existing 1902 Dutch-style brick building while maintaining the overall character of the historic structure as well as a 7,600 square foot modern addition. Stewart Interiors’ scope included both interior and exterior metal framing, drywall, acoustic ceilings, a specialty wood ceiling, historic plaster restoration, new plaster, and participation in the LEED program - all within a tight jobsite including a majestic 100 year old live oak tree which required special coordination to avoid damage of the tree’s extensive root system. The drywall scope was overseen by Stewart Foreman, Bill Thibodeaux, and both the new and restoration plaster was handed by Plaster Foreman Randy Johnson. Stewart restored the plaster elements on the existing historic building along with a new plaster cladding system on the addition.  The plaster restoration included taking molds of the damaged architectural elements, casting new replacement stucco pieces and installation of the same on the building including the Tulane logo as seen in these photos.

Flashback Friday - 1111 Gravier

Flashback Friday: Today we want to showcase this 110,000 square foot building located at the corner of Gravier and Rampart Streets. Completed in 2016, the Troubadour Hotel project was a historic renovation converting a former mixed-use building into a contemporary hotel. Located in the Central Business District, this seventeen-story historically significant project marked a drastic conversion from the building’s original use as office space into a boutique hotel offering luxurious and modern rooms and suits. As part of the Joie de Vivre Hotels brand, The Troubadour Hotel features a first floor Bar/Lounge area, second floor meeting rooms, 184 guest rooms, and a roof top bar overlooking Downtown New Orleans. Stewart Foreman, Rodney Naquin, oversaw our scope of work on the project which included metal stud framing, insulation, drywall, acoustic ceilings, acoustical wall panels, and FRP.

Flashback Friday - M.S. Rau Antiques

Flashback Friday: As we get into Mardi Gras weekend, we want to highlight a project completed in the heart of the Vieux Carre, which we all know will be buzzing with activity this Carnival weekend. The 32,530 square foot M.S. Rau Antique project completed in 2019 brought to life the classic Creole structure which was originally built in 1831 and nearly doubled the size of the gallery. This effort was led by our jobsite Foreman, Pete White. Pete helped facilitate the expansion of the 105-year old antiques gallery which included the historic renovation of two adjacent buildings on Royal Street in the French Quarter. Not only did Pete oversee the Stewart Interiors scope of work on this historic renovation (including metal framing, drywall, and insulation), but he also worked closely with the General Contractor and the French Quarter neighbors to coordinate deliveries and minimize disruption on a high-traffic, one-way street. So if you find yourself strolling through the Quarter this Mardi Gras, keep an eye out for the massive 19th century porte-cochere carriage doors of MS Rau Antiques.

Flashback Friday - Sunrise Senior Living

Today we are flashing waaay back to the Sunrise Assisted Living project which we completed several years ago.  Located in Metairie, Louisiana our scope of work on this 56,500 square foot project included furnishing and installing cold formed metal trusses, cold formed metal framing, sheathing, drywall, insulation, fypon decorative elements, hardiplank, acoustic ceilings and the installation only of punched windows. Although not his first project with Stewart Interiors, this was an early project run by longtime Stewart Superintendent, James Cagle, who has been with the company for an impressive 21-1/2 years. Sunrise of Metairie offers assisted living, memory care, short-term stays as well as coordination of hospice care.

Flashback Friday - Gallier Hall

Today we are highlighting Gallier Hall – Lafayette Street, West and North Façade Restoration, which was largely completed by our Plaster Division in 2019. Along with new plaster, Stewart Interiors also specializes in plaster restoration throughout the New Orleans and surrounding areas. We believe we have THE BEST plaster restoration personnel in the south. This includes our Plaster Jobsite Foreman, Randy Johnson, who oversaw the stabilization and restoration of the classical portico/primary façade of the historic 1850 Gallier Hall Building. Prominently located on St. Charles Avenue facing Lafayette Square, Gallier Hall originally served as City Hall for more than a century hosting events throughout the Civil War, Reconstruction, and the era of Governor Huey P. Long.  It is recognized as one of the city’s finest examples of Greek Revival architecture and is renowned for its scholarly detail and proportions. Today this building is used as a venue for special occasions and remains a pivotal spot during the Carnival Season.

Flashback Friday - New Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport

Flashback Friday: Today we want to spotlight our recently completed work at the new Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport. Here Stewart Jobsite Superintendent Mitchell Silk oversaw the completion of 12 individual food and beverage buildout venues spanning multiple Concourses including Folse Market, Leah’s Kitchen, Midway Pizza, City Greens, Mo Pho, Sazerac Bar, Jazz and Heritage Music Bar, Angelo Brocato Gelato and the Food Court including PJ’s Coffee, Chick-Fil-A, and Ye Olde College Inn. These build outs range from 300 to 5,000 square feet and vary from full restaurant-style venues equipped with full bars, back-of-house kitchens, exhaust chases, storage, a food-court, and freestanding kiosks. Although this much ongoing work over a spread-out jobsite brought its own challenges, Stewart forces were able to go above and beyond to complete our scope of work.
